Long trip to... somewhere. The film career of Fernando Franco
Every filmmaking process is a new initiation rite of passage. At each commencement, the filmmaker assumes the role of apprentice. And, as in each expedition, we know the point of departure, but not where it will end and, above all, how it will end. Cinematographic creation involves an immersion into the desires, the needs and into the deepest concerns of the author. And, that journey, which should be personal and free, is also teamwork. However, in that balance between creative freedom, the team and available resources, the filmmaker has to take decisions, make sacrifices and find solutions. That long journey through uncertainty will transform people, taking them to a new place where they have never been before. In this workshop, Fernando Franco, winner of the Goya Award in 2014 for Best New Director for the film La Herida (The Wound), will present his way of navigating that long journey.

Fernando Franco
Fernando Franco is a university graduate in Audiovisual Communication and has a degree in Editing from the School of Cinematography and Audiovisual of the Community of Madrid (ECAM). He has edited more than thirty feature films, including Snow White, May God Forgive Us and Journey To A Mother's Room, three titles for which he has been nominated for the Goya for Best Editing. At the same time, he has been carrying out his own projects as a screenwriter and director. Specifically, the feature film The Wound (2013), won the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, for which he also won the Goya for Best New Director and its protagonist, Marian Álvarez won Best Actress and Silver Seashell. In 2017, he also premiered Morir (2017) at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, for which Andrés Gertrudix was nominated for the Goya for Best Actor. In the teaching field, he coordinates the courses for the Editing Degree at the ECAM and he collaborates with various centres including Cuba’s EICTV, Pompeu Fabra, the Escac and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
